    Backup Policy

Data will be stored on NYSBC computers for ONE WEEK

NYSBC computers are backed up to tape on a daily basis. However, this is NOT a permanent backup and it will be very difficult to retrieve individual user files. Daily backup is to ensure computer integrity only.

Users are expected to take their data with them, either on CD, external USB drive, or by FTP soon after returning home.

WE CAN ASSUME NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR DATA
    NOT RETRIEVED WITHIN ONE WEEK

    Network Architecture

NYSBC has two main computer servers:
    • FTP server for remote access to files
    • NFS server for centralized file storage
The FTP server (dl360) is generally accessed from your home institution using sftp (an excellent Windows client is WinSCP).

The files on the NFS server (dl380) can be accessed from both internal computers and from dl360. It is also backed up on a regular basis, so it is the natural reservoir for all user data.

When remotely connected to the FTP server, your files on dl380 can be accessed under /mnt/dl380/home/user

When accessed from within NYSBC, your files on dl380 can be accessed on /home/nfshome/user (from a Linux machine) or on \\dl380\user\user (from a Windows machine)
