X-Ray
Crystallography Beamlines
The NYSBC operates two
synchrotron beamlines at the Brookhaven National Laboratory on Long
Island.
X4A beamline is fully
tunable and was originally designed to test multiwavelength (MAD)
phasing, a methodology now widely used for solving biological crystal
structures. X4A, in operation since 1992, is consistently ranked among
the five most productive of more than 100 beamlines in the world.
X4C, NYSBC’s newly
operational beamline, has more limited tunability but its flux density
at the crystal sample is higher than that from X4A. Both beamlines are
equipped with CCD detectors and have just undergone major renovations
of goniometers and robotic sample changers.
