Production Facility
Protein
Production is a necessary step for structural and other biologists who
require functional proteins for
their research. The NYSBC has the expertise and the automated
instrumentation to produce 1,000 clones a
week that are subsequently expressed and purified using high throughput
techniques. This production capacity was developed as part of the
NYSBC’s NIH-funded New York Consortium on Membrane Protein Structure
(NYCOMPS), that focuses on expressing a very important class of
proteins considered to be a major challenge in structural biology.
Understanding membrane proteins remains an important biomedical
goal.
Under the
direction of Dr. James Love, NYSBC’s high throughput
protein production platform utilizes robotic methods to produce
hundreds of functional, integral membrane proteins that can be used for
research. NYSBC is planning on expanding this capacity to include
non-membrane proteins and other high-value targets.

facility page.
